"What if the storm ends?
And I don't see you
As you are now
Ever again.
The perfect halo
Of gold hair and lightening
Sets you off against
The planets last dance,
Just for a minute
The silver-forked sky
Lifts you up like a star
That I will follow,
But now it's found us
I don't wanna run
Just overwhelm me."
~ Snow Patrol 'What if the Storm Ends?'

The Doctor came when she called, just as he always would.
He followed the co-ordinated to a planet, a half planet. One half drifting in deep space and all that was left of the other was expired continents orbiting a dying sun.
The suface of the planet was shiny, with the constant onslaught of lightening creating great glass sculptures, their delicate arms reaching out into the sky as if seeking salvation.

River stood, a solitary figure at the edge of the world as she stared out into the dark void with her back to the glowing pit of hideous orange - that chased the night away - and from the one man who understood the terrible carnage she had been unable to prevent.

Lightening struck the defenceless ground with brutal force, the glass towers shattering musically only to rise again with the next bolt.

He walked slowly around the edge of the burning pit, this shards of scattered glass crunching underfoot, the heat splitting the ends of his hair, until he could see her clearly.
She burned brighter than the dying sun, her golden hair glowing like a sinister halo. It was painful to look at, but he couldn't avert his eyes, wouldn't shy away from her secret tears.
The shake of shoulders could have been mistaken for the shadow of flickering flames licking her skin of the way the hot air smudged her silhouette like oil on a lens, but he knew the illusion to be what it was, a means to stay hidden, to survive.

He whispered her name, his love and fear for her reaching though the space between them. And as if his breath was enough to push her of the end of the world she dropped forward her arms open wide in relief.

He dashed forward hopelessly, his hearts plummeting along with her as he watched her twist as she fell with the beauty of someone born to it.
Unable to stop himself he smiled at the falling Child of the TARDIS as the familiar blue box materialized beneath her and he caught sight of himself opening the door to catch her.

He slipped across the glass spire, skidded under their crystal arms. Lightening forked down around him, shards of blasted sand tinkled down on him as he skipped into his ship, kicking the door shut as he bounced over to the console.
With a tweak of the co-ordinates, and some soft words of endearment to his beloved Sexy when her hum became an urgent rumble at crossing time-lines, he prayed for his timing to be perfect.

In an instance he was at the doors pulling them open with rough determination and letting them swing open.
For a second time he was instantly entranced by her, the fabric of her dress fluttering up between her legs in ragged tendrils and smoothing along the whole outline of her.
He winked at his other-self as he braced himself, ready as always to catch her.

They crashed to the floor in a tangle of legs and nude, ash-stained chiffon, her soft curls covering his face. She smelled smoky and he could feel the trace of heat from the fire where his hand rested low on her back.
He whispered her name, again. Something deep in his stomach wrenched with fear as though she could fall out of his arms even as they lay safe in his ship.

River said nothing as she turned her face into the side of his neck, her skin sticky with the residue of salt. He let the mutual silence cloak them as the TARDIS sailed them back into the relative safety of the vortex.

He hated secrets. He was intrigued and cautious and a little in love with them to.

The spoilers and the predetermined destiny that used to irritate and terrify him were things that he was learning to look forward to.

Happiness wasn't an emotion he had expected to catch up with him so quickly, but secrets and spoilers, the back and forth of their unraveling relationship was a mystery he already loved.

River's hand was always inches away, waiting, wanting to be caught. She was always fighting to hide herself between the lyrics of her own riddle. She was always one step ahead, until she wasn't. He knows the pain he caused and the only remedy for it.

He gave chase, flew through the darkness, jumping from planet to planet and touching the stars of the future and the moons of the past to make sure he didn't miss a second of the time owed to them.

Empty Space And Points Of Light

Title: Empty Space And Points Of Light
Chapter: Prologue
Fandom: Doctor Who
Characters/Pairings: Ninth Doctor, River song. The Doctor/River Song. (There will be other character and pairings at the story develops, for now though... Spoilers!)
Disclaimer: Not mine
Spoilers: None
A/N: *Dusts off cobwebs* Not writen a multi-chapter fic in a loooong time. Got the first three part done as well as the ending... sort of. I love Nine/River, but need your help, PLEASE. Pretty please, send me PROMPTS for this pairing, I'll try my very best to fill every single one :)

We are all made of atoms... and what are atoms, but empty space and points of light? The Alchemists understood this as fire, and learned that the fiery body can be consumed and made again, like the Phoenix from the ashes. Oh, yes, we can all be consumed and made again.

-          Tanglewreck by Jeanette Winterson.

This is not the end.

In the data core her life ends in a series of disintegrating pixels and raw mathematical data. The relief that at last the torment is over isn’t astounding. She doesn’t grieve the end. River Song just lets go, she falls.

And this is not the beginning.

This time round the dawning of life does not commence in a mother’s womb or with the starburst of regeneration, but in a cold tank in an unfamiliar room, her body not yet fully formed and dancing with pain. River Song comes to howling at the violation of being reborn.

It is a continuation.

Gradually the new world she finds herself in begins to solidify and soften as does her body. She still shrinks away from the slightest touch, from the blinding white that cuts sharply into her rest, but she fights to hide these signs of vulnerability. Bit by bit she grows stronger until finally she opens her eyes.

A Thousand Cranes

Title: A Thousand Cranes.

Word Count: 102
Prompt: Origami
A/N: In Japan it is said that if you fold a thousand paper cranes your wish will come true. Also, there is an episode of ER starring Alex Kingston that's called 'A Thousand Cranes'. Oooo Trivia! This came about when some months ago I decided I would make a thousand cranes, I didn't make even one, I did however make pigeons... much cuter and they look cool as a bookmark.
A Thousand Cranes

He’d been excited to begin with. Utterly convinced River would love the idea.

As romantic gestures went nothing’s quite so time consuming and heartfelt as a prison cell filled with a thousand multi-coloured Crane’s.

Origami was an art, simple, yet beautiful.

It wasn’t until he was kneeling, squares of paper confetti-ing the Tardis that he realised, unexpectedly, that following a series of instruction on folding and manipulating paper could be so complicated.

It was unbelievably frustrating. He had paper-cuts, dozens of tear inducing paper-cuts, all over his fingers and nose.

River received a pigeon, wings crinkled and beak frayed. She loved it.

Word Count: 241
Prompt: Stupidly I didn't write down the prompt..
A/N: This was started way back in January and since I've mostly been interested in reading as many books as possible I have only just gotten round to finishing this.

“You’re so tense,” she hummed against the side of his neck as she trailed cerise nails up his arm and felt the muscles beneath tremble. “Calm down. I won’t hurt you.”

Sherlock looked from her to the leather horse crop on the night stand with pupils blown Cimmerian.  “I’m not inclined to believe you.”

She dragged the back of her knuckles along the chiselled line of his cheekbone, “I don’t mean physically, you dolt,” she said in a voice which held a note of ambiguous tenderness. He stared hard at Irene’s soft expression unable to construe any undisclosed intentions.

“I won’t laugh at you. I won’t humiliate you.” She promised, leaving the ‘unless you want me to’ hanging in the air between them as she pressed him back into his mattress.

Against his chest she whispered, “I want you to believe me,” and sighed hopelessly. She was more than capable of bewildering and captivating Sherlock, but the degree of trust he bequeathed upon his dearest doctor was something she was yet to obtain.

His stoic silence was broken by a gasp as the muscles in his stomach jumped under the warm pressure of her tongue. “And yet you know I won’t.” Irene smiled into the jutting curve of his hipbone as he perceptively flinched at the reverberation of his own voice; deep and rasping.

Her atramentous eyes, starless yet not disheartened, fixated on his own, “You know I love a challenge.”

She seeks the tiny cracks in his exposure and blows them apart so what was a blush of embarrassment becomes the red heat of his desire.

Her plush lips against his are so shockingly new and all too familiar. River kisses him as though it's an intimacy they've shared a thousand times over. It's achingly slow and steady. Controlled, but barely. He can feels the efflux of waters beneath, longing to surge up within her.

He feels the hairline crack splitting wider with every delirious contraction of his twin hearts until they're fracturing, breaking and his love is bleeding out.
